Pulse on the Market

Amazon’s $14B Canadian corporate bond offering, including a $4.75B 30-year tranche, triggered a surge in maple bond issuance, pushing 2026 totals past prior annual records.

Debt Capital Markets (DCM): Canadian corporate debt issuance surged in Q2 2026, led by Amazon’s record $14B maple bond offering (including a $4.75B 30-year tranche), pushing 2026 issuance past $178.9B year-to-date as spreads tightened on strong investor demand for long-dated corporate debt.

Equity Capital Markets (ECM): Issuance improved but stayed concentrated in a few large deals — Apotex Health’s upsized C$1.3B IPO and PROREIT’s C$107.3M financing (C$83.3M bought deal plus C$24.0M private placement). While SpaceX’s US$85.7B U.S. IPO stood out globally, broader Canadian IPO breadth remained limited.

Private Capital & Energy: The Canada Infrastructure Bank’s $200M debt financing for Generation Mining’s Marathon copper, palladium project signals growing public and private capital support for large-scale resource infrastructure.

Watch: Q3 should stay constructive but selective: high-grade debt issuance if rates and spreads hold steady, while equity issuance continues to depend on sector-specific stories rather than a broad IPO reopening.

KEY ENHANCEMENTS

  • Energy Sector Issuance Gains Momentum:

Oil and gas capital raising gained traction as prices stabilized — Valeura reported record Q2 revenue of US$259.8M on average oil prices of US$105.8/bbl — signalling renewed investor appetite for cash-flow-generating energy assets.

  • Credit Conditions Improve:

Corporate debt spreads tightened versus Q1; Valeura’s debt position reached zero with cash reserves of US$316.5M by June, reflecting a cautious but improving risk appetite among issuers and investors.

NEWS — Shaping the September 2026 Dealer Linking Pilot

As Dealer Linking moves toward pilot readiness, we are actively seeking input from dealers on workflow, notifications, and reporting ahead of the September 2026 release. Client feedback is directly shaping how the module rolls out — if your team would like to weigh in, reach out to your NIAD account contact.

KEY ENHANCEMENTS

  • President’s List — Simplified Deal Book Workflow:

Current President’s List fields on the Deal Book, Syndicate Book, and Selling Group Book are now read-only and auto-populated from the President’s List Internal and External orders, and Affirmation User, Date, and Time are captured automatically when placing a President’s List order, cutting down on manual re-entry and back-and-forth between screens.

  • Institutional Prospectus Tracking — Preliminary & Final Prospectus Delivery:

A new Enable Institutional Prospectus Tracking checkbox on the Issue Management page lets NIAD send Preliminary, Preliminary Amended, Final, Final Amended, or Prospectus Supplement documents directly to institutional clients once a distributed order has been placed, following the same rules already used for retail clients.

  • Deal Book — Multiple Temporary Dealers:

Syndicate Managers can now tag and add more than one Temporary Dealer to a Syndicate or Selling Group Book on the same issue, each with its own editable name, for situations where a single placeholder dealer isn’t enough.

  • Settlements — Simplified Handling for $0.00 Issues

Setting up Settlements and Contracting for issues priced at $0.00 is now simpler. We removed restrictive workarounds and now allow $0.00 for Issue and Drawdown prices, streamlining the processing of zero-dollar instruments.

  • Settlements & Export — New FX Rate Fields:

New FX Rate ($) and FX Rate Reference Code fields have been added to the Settlements page, and the Export page now displays FX Quantity along with FX rate and reference details wherever a currency discrepancy exists.

  • Subscription Agreement Module — Internal Use Document Visibility:

Signature History and Signed Status now display for Internal Use Documents, the applied template name is identified directly on the Signature and Approvals table, and fields lock once a template is applied to prevent accidental edits.

Pulse Tips

Here are practical tips to help users get more done inside the NIAD application. Each tip explains what to do, why it helps, and the exact place to click so your workflow stays fast and accurate.

Auto Issue Close

  • What it does: Automatically closes an issue at its scheduled Closing Date so orders and interest can no longer be entered, even if the Syndicate Manager isn’t available to close it manually.
  • How to use it: On the Issue Management page, enter a Closing Date and check the Auto Issue Close checkbox, then click Update Issue. When the closing job runs, the issue’s status automatically switches to Issue Closed and the Accept Order, Accept Order Changes, and Accept Bulk Interest checkboxes are disabled.
  • Why it helps: Removes the risk of an issue staying open past its closing time when a Syndicate Manager is out of office, keeping order books accurate without manual intervention.

Synchronize Issue Size with Deal Book

  • What it does: Keeps the Deal Book’s Base Securities Issued, Underwriter’s Option, and Over-Allotment Option values automatically aligned with the # Securities entered on the Issue Management page.
  • How to use it: Leave the Synchronize Issue Size with Deal Book checkbox (checked by default) on when updating # Securities on Issue Management; a green refresh icon on the Deal page confirms the two pages are in sync. Uncheck it only if you need to set Deal Book values independently — a red icon will flag when the two pages fall out of sync.
  • Why it helps: Eliminates duplicate data entry between Issue Management and the Deal Book and gives Syndicate teams an at-a-glance visual check that issue size figures match.
